Our PeopleThe following is taken from “Life along the Yukon River - The Koyukon Athabascan People of Stevens Village, Alaska”. It was published in 1999 by Yukon River Tours, a subsidiary of Dinyee Corporation and the Rethinking Tourism Project with support from the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation; and was authored by Dave Lacy, Deborah McLaren, and Katie Cook. The following Stevens Village elders were interviewed and gave of their time, wisdom, and knowledge for this publication: Charles “Tucky” Mayo, Kilbourne George, Lawrence Moses, Marjorie Mayo, and other elders. Others who contributed were Chief Randy Mayo, Cliff Stevens, and Dewey Schwalenberg. It was originally used as a guidebook for Yukon River Tours, which is no longer in operation. Today this publication still offers invaluable historical and cultural insight about Stevens Village and its people, the Denyeet Hot’Anna (Canyon People). We hope you enjoy and learn from “Life along the Yukon River - The Koyukon Athabascan People of Stevens Village, Alaska”.
